Oh What Fun

June 15th, 2011

IMG_2278Well, Pride Key West 2011 has officially come and gone. I for one am exhausted and satisfied. Key West once again hosted a fabulous Pride celebration.

Pearl’s party Friday night was as entertaining as promised. Comedienne Christine O’Leary kept the crowd in stitches all evening, Key West Burlesque kept them on the edge of their seats, and DJ Rae Rae kept them hopping.

Next, we look forward to Family Week at Pearl’s, July 3-10, and Womenfest in September.

But first, a little rest and relaxation. Perhaps soak up a little sun.

See you in paradise soon.

Pride, Pride, and MORE PRIDE

June 8th, 2011

It’s all about gay pride in Key West this week. Today officially kicks off the 2011 Key West Pride celebration.

There will be parties all over town, culminating in the Pride Parade down Duval Street Sunday evening.

As I’ve mentioned in previous entries, Pearl’s is hosting the Friday night dance party, Divas, Drag and Dancing, from 8-11 PM. This one is always a can’t-miss, and this year there is poolside VIP table seating (with cocktail service) available for those willing to pay a little extra at the door.

To get the party rolling, however, Pearl’s is co-sponsoring the Ms. Pride competition Thursday night at Aqua Nightclub. We have two Pearl’s Girls competing in this year’s fun and festive pageant. Drop by between 8 and 11 PM to show your support.

Lastly, to wrap it all up, Pearl’s is sponsoring Dykes on Bikes, set to lead the Pride Parade on Sunday. Everyone is welcome to join. Meet at the Truman Waterfront on your “wheels” of choice at 4 PM to get your t-shirt.

As for me, I’m also looking forward to the MCC Past for Pride buffet before Pearl’s party Friday evening, the GLCC Pride Ride around the island Saturday morning, and the Aqua dance party late Saturday night.

Keep an eye on this blog and our Facebook page for photos from the events.

See you in paradise soon.

Pearl’s Ready for Divas, Drag & Dancing

June 2nd, 2011

While biking in Key West yesterday, I saw a guy I know strolling down the sidewalk, dutifully walking his dog in the left hand, and gleefully holding green, glittery wings in his right hand. Key West Pride kicks off next week, and I can’t wait to catch sight of those wings amidst all the color and circumstance.

christineolearyMeanwhile, everyone at Pearl’s is busy with preparations for the Pearl’s Pride Party, Divas, Drag & Dancing, on Friday night, June 10th, 8-11 PM.

All are welcome to join the fun, and admission is only $10.

One of our favorite funny ladies, and award-winning comedienne Christine O’Leary (pictured left), returns to Pearl’s to make you “laugh til you tinkle.”

tatahdujourThen Dujour Unlimited (Tatah DuJour pictured right) takes the stage with drag king performances not soon to be forgotten.

And when the stage is empty, count on DJ Rae Rae to keep the party hopping.

You can even get your own poolside table seating for the evening for $20 admission.

Do you want to be part of the Pride Parade on Sunday, June 12th at 5pm? Pearl’s is sponsoring Dykes on Bikes. Bicycles, tricycles, motorcycles, all welcome. Contact Pearl’s Rainbow at 305-292-1450 to sign up and get your Dykes on Bikes t-shirt.

The excitement begins. See you in paradise soon!

Fun in the Sun this Weekend

May 27th, 2011

Having resided in South Texas for some time, I remember that Memorial Day weekend marked the first official pool party of the year. Of course, it’s been warm here in Key West for some time now, so the swimming pools are in full swing, and the flora are in full bloom.

To kick off the long holiday weekend, The Patio at Pearl’s has Susie Comet live tonight 7-10 PM. And, as always, the Key West Bar Card gets you a two-for-one drink during an EXTENDED happy hour 5-9 PM.

Last, but certainly not least, in addition to remembering all of those who have served our country this Memorial Day, we keep a concerned eye on our friends in Missouri and the rest of tornado alley.

Please keep all of these people in your thoughts this weekend.

See you in paradise soon!

Art Show a Fun New Event

May 23rd, 2011

In case you missed it, the joint art show at The Strand at Pearl’s on Friday was as cool as I expected.

IMG_2206Artwork lined the walls of the entire room, making it hard to decide where to look first. Guests were able to spend time chatting it up with the artists while noshing on Chef Toni’s choice hors d’oeuvres for the evening.

Everyone seemed to have a great time, and money was raised for the local high school art program in the process. I hope Pearl’s will have similar events like this in the future.

Next up, of course, is the Key West Pride party, Divas, Drag and Dancing.

See you in paradise soon!
