Pearl’s Ready for Divas, Drag & Dancing

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

While biking in Key West yesterday, I saw a guy I know strolling down the sidewalk, dutifully walking his dog in the left hand, and gleefully holding green, glittery wings in his right hand. Key West Pride kicks off next week, and I can’t wait to catch sight of those wings amidst all the color and circumstance.

christineolearyMeanwhile, everyone at Pearl’s is busy with preparations for the Pearl’s Pride Party, Divas, Drag & Dancing, on Friday night, June 10th, 8-11 PM.

All are welcome to join the fun, and admission is only $10.

One of our favorite funny ladies, and award-winning comedienne Christine O’Leary (pictured left), returns to Pearl’s to make you “laugh til you tinkle.”

tatahdujourThen Dujour Unlimited (Tatah DuJour pictured right) takes the stage with drag king performances not soon to be forgotten.

And when the stage is empty, count on DJ Rae Rae to keep the party hopping.

You can even get your own poolside table seating for the evening for $20 admission.

Do you want to be part of the Pride Parade on Sunday, June 12th at 5pm? Pearl’s is sponsoring Dykes on Bikes. Bicycles, tricycles, motorcycles, all welcome. Contact Pearl’s Rainbow at 305-292-1450 to sign up and get your Dykes on Bikes t-shirt.

The excitement begins. See you in paradise soon!

Fun in the Sun this Weekend

Friday, May 27th, 2011

Having resided in South Texas for some time, I remember that Memorial Day weekend marked the first official pool party of the year. Of course, it’s been warm here in Key West for some time now, so the swimming pools are in full swing, and the flora are in full bloom.

To kick off the long holiday weekend, The Patio at Pearl’s has Susie Comet live tonight 7-10 PM. And, as always, the Key West Bar Card gets you a two-for-one drink during an EXTENDED happy hour 5-9 PM.

Last, but certainly not least, in addition to remembering all of those who have served our country this Memorial Day, we keep a concerned eye on our friends in Missouri and the rest of tornado alley.

Please keep all of these people in your thoughts this weekend.

See you in paradise soon!

Check out the Art Show at Pearl’s Key West

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

The Strand at Pearl’s is hosting a Joint Art Show this Friday from 6-9 PM, and I for one can’t wait!

ART SHOW DRAFT2The featured artists (and some Pearl’s Girls BTW) will be showing off their painting, photography and pen & ink artwork. Be sure to bring your pocketbook, because it all will be for sale.

The Strand, of course, is Pearl’s restaurant, located in the office building and serving up a full breakfast daily to Pearl’s guests and locals alike. (For those of you who may not know yet, Chef Toni is back. I predict special changes are on the way.)

Appetizers from the Strand and refreshments from the Patio will make the art show a truly classy occassion.

Then, as always, live music kicks off at The Patio at 7:00. Robert Douglas is on tap this week.

I really can’t ask for much more for a Friday night.

See you in paradise soon.

Happy Easter from Pearl’s Girls

Friday, April 22nd, 2011

It’s been a spell, but I’ve finally had a chance to spend some time again at Pearl’s Rainbow and in Key West. And spring is such a wonderful time to be here!

easter_sandFirst and foremost, it’s the Easter holiday weekend.

On Sunday, Chef Toni at The Strand will be offering special Eggs Benedict and French Toast dishes between 8 AM and 1 PM. Locals are welcome, too, so it is sure to be a festive time.

In the meantime, Robert Douglas entertains the crowd at the Patio tonight from 7 – 10 PM.

I had the opportunity to see The Last Century at the Waterfront Playhouse last night. It was a delightfully silly show.

If you haven’t visited one of the great live theaters in Key West, do it soon, as the show season is starting to wind down.

Waterfront Playhouse, Red Barn Theatre and Tennessee Williams Theater all offer an array of entertainment and special showings. You may even catch Pearl’s owner, Heather, on stage performing with the Keys Chorale.

The Conch Republic Independence Celebration kicks off this weekend with the “Drag” Races - drag queens in heels racing through an obstacle course on Duval Street, drinking along the way. ALWAYS a hysterical combination.

Also, plans are underway for Pearl’s annual Key West Pride party in June. Keep your eye on my blog for more details.

Did I mention that it is an awesome time to be here?

See you in paradise soon!

Celebrate the Bar Card Tonight at Pearl’s Patio

Friday, January 14th, 2011

The new year is well underway here in Key West, and our high season activities are in full swing.

If you haven’t gotten your 2011 Bar Card yet, the time is now. Tonight, the Key West Bar Card launches its second year with a party at Pearl’s Patio. Be sure to stop by for an extended happy hour, 2 for 1 drinks with your new Bar Card, and live entertainment with Robert “Doug” Douglas. There will also be door prizes and tempting appetizers.

Wind flutes sculpture at Ft. Zachary Taylor ParkJanuary is one of my favorite months in Key West. This weekend alone, there are so many events, one could never attend them all. Sculpture Key West debuts their months-long display of interesting sculpture around Key West. And the Seafood Festival entices visitors with local flavors Saturday in Bayview Park.

Fundraisers are entertaining us all over the island, and the local theaters have begun their new seasons of plays, musicals, and laughs. The Key West Food and Wine Festival wraps up the month with four days of delicious activities. Whew.

Make your plans now. February and March are sure to be just as busy.

See you in paradise soon!
