When it comes to bringing in the New Year, Key West has a celebratory choice for everyone. Here are my TOP 5 selections for welcoming 2012.
5 – Key West Dachshund Walk – For the 7th year, about 200 dachshunds and their owners parade down Fleming Street (between Whitehead and Duval Streets) for a family-friendly New Year spectacle. This takes place at noon the day of New Year’s Eve and is a locals’ favorite.
4 – Karaoke with Susie Comet – Before you head downtown for one of the three festive “drops,” start the evening by warming up that countdown voice. Pearl’s Patio will be rocking with karaoke led by Susie Comet and our 12 Days of Christmas special drink of the day.
3 – Conch Shell Drop – The Sloppy Joe’s crowd will definitely enjoy the Conch shell drop from the top of their favorite bar at 201 Duval Street.
2 – Wench Drop – If you’re feeling the pirate spirit, head to the Historic Seaport, near Shcooner Wharf Bar, where a wench is dropped from a tall ship mast.
1 – Drag Queen Drop – For those seeking a little gaiety in their New Year celebration, Bourbon Street Pub at 724 Duval Street is the place to see and be seen. Porsche of Wanda Sykes Show fame hosts an evening of live performances, culminating in the drop of local drag queen Sushi atop a 6-ft red high heel shoe.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
4 – Pearl’s Spaghetti Dinner – You won’t want to miss Chef Toni’s $2 Spaghetti Dinner on Saturday, 4:30-7:30 PM. We will celebrate everyone who participated in SMART Ride 8 while noshing on spaghetti, meatballs, salad and bread.
1 - Black and Skabuddah at the Patio – Originally from NYC, Black and Skabuddah make their first appearance at Pearl’s Patio this Saturday, 7-10 PM. Black and Skabuddah’s sound has been described as acoustic-driven classic rock with an edge. Their repertoire consists of 60’s & 70’s classic rock and some of their original music. We look forward to welcoming them to the Patio.
